Knowing full well the impact of injuries, Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Ray Shero today announced the signing of veteran forward Jason Williams to a two-way contract.

The contract will pay him $600,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 at the AHL level. He will be required to clear waivers.

The 30-year-old right winger has played in 447 NHL games with five teams, including two stints with the Detroit Red Wings. He has totaled 225 points (93 goals, 132 assists), a minus-3 rating, and 153 penalty minutes.

He most recently played for the Dallas Stars, totaling 27 games and five points last season.

While is proven capable of the NHL rigor, he is more likely to spend most if not all of the season as a veteran scoring presence for the Penguins’ AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
