The Pittsburgh Penguins today announced the signing of their 2011 first round draft pick, defenseman Joe Morrow.
Morrow’s contract is a standard entry-level deal of three years and will begin when he turns professional.
The 18-year-old was selected with the 23rd overall pick, adding yet another defenseman to a pool of strong defensive prospects in the Penguins’ system.
Barring a spectacular showing in training camp, Morrow will return to the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL, where he has spent the last three seasons.
