Likewise, despite the ups and downs of the season, they have remained relatively locked into the same place. One concern I have is the even-strength ratio and rank. The way the games are being called now, you really have to make hay at even strength, and they’re not doing it.

  • Their 5—on-3 play continues to suck. They are really 13th in the last category, since they have more 5-on-3 time than any other team with 3 goals. In fact, the power play as a whole isn’t much better. So much for Bylsma “fixing” it in the offseason.

GOALTENDING

Save Percentage: .904, 22nd, -6. They were 16th last time and I said, “this needs to improve.” It didn’t. It got worse. The simple fact is their defense and goaltending haven’t been as good as last year. The eye test says it’s more the defense and Johnson than Fleury. But it really doesn’t bode well for them if this doesn’t improve.

OTHER

1-Goal Game Winning Percentage: .500, 16th, +10. This is a good sign. They have improved significantly here.
