Game Summaries:

Feb 3, 2009

The Penguins began the week at the Wachovia Spectrum taking on the Philadelphia Phantoms.

Wallace made a lot of key plays in this game, resulting in a 4-1 victory for the Penguins. He scored his 8th and 9th goals of the season, and was named the first star of the game.

Cashman blasted a slap shot that would prove to be his 1st career goal in the AHL. He has some untapped offensive ability from the point that we should keep an eye on.

The only goal credited to the opposition was by former Wheeling Nailer Rob Sirianni. He was the Nailers captain this season before being signed to a professional tryout contract.

Joey Mormina added his 2nd goal of the season, on a full rink empty net shot.

Feb 6, 2009

The Pens returned home to face the San Antonio Rampage, for only the second time this season.

Some crazy things would be in store for this game, and here’s what happened.

Both teams would be held off the scoresheet until Pesonen did his best Jaromir Jagr impression, putting the Pens up 1-0. (More on that later).

Garth Murray tallied for the Rampage, but he was answered with back-to-back goals by Connor James and Nick Johnson.

Wilkes-Barre had a 3-1 lead with 2 minutes left in regulation. Game over, right? Wrong.

San Antonio’s Kevin Porter and Chad Kolarik both scored within the final two minutes of the game, with the goalie pulled to tie the game back up at 3.

At one point, Pesonen had a shot at the empty net but opted to pass to Mark Letestu. He couldn’t find the net, and the Rampage led the rush back the other way to stun the Wachovia Arena crowd.

No worries though. In the final minute of overtime play, Cashman comes through again and buries the game winner after an outstanding assist from Daoust. The Pens take this one 4-3, in OT.

Feb 8, 2009

The Pens had a matinée meeting with the Norfolk Admirals on Sunday afternoon.

The Admirals couldn’t solve Curry, as he stood strong in the net recording a 32-save shutout for the victory.

Goals were scored by Dustin Jeffrey, Letestu, Pesonen, and Daoust (2). The final score was 5-0, WBS.

Joey Mormina got into a scuffle with Zenon Konopka.

The Pens finish the week undefeated, going 3-0 in their last three games.

Transactions:
