Brad Thiessen knew he had to be good with all of his team’s scorers in Pittsburgh. And he stood up to the challenge by allowing 3 goals in 5 starts. Because of his excellent play including his one goal performance against the AHL powerhouse Hersey Bears, he has earned the AHL Player of the Week award.

Thiessen went 4-1 this week with a 0.60 GAA and a .971 SV% in his first week back from injury.

Thiessen was a college free agent signed by the Penguins last summer and he has stolen the starting job away from AHL veteran John Curry.

Thiessen’s numbers this season are now up to a very impressive 1.87 GAA and .925 sv% to go along with 22 wins and 5 shutouts.
