Former Wheeling Nailer and current Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Ben Street was named the ECHL rookie of the year for this season – even after he got promoted to the AHL in February.

Street played 38 games at the ECHL level and 33 games so far at the AHL level yet still won the award.

Street got called up from the ECHL when the Pittsburgh Penguins called up the top 7 scorers from the AHL Penguins to the NHL.

He responded by contributing immediately – so much so that he has continued to get top 6 ice time once some of those players have returned.

Street has earned a roster spot for next season along with fellow rookie and ECHL standout Nick Petersen.

A great rookie season for the undrafted and unheralded Wisconsin graduate.
