Alex Kovalev was awarded the Jean Beliveau Trophy for his charity work around the Montreal community. Last summer, Kovalev announced the creation of the Kovalev and Friends for Kids Foundation that allows children with cardiovascular deficiency to have the ability to have access to highly-specialized medical care. Kovalev’s charity brought in $120,000 for the cause.
The Sabres lose Paul Gaustad for three to four weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb. Gaustad injured his thumb during the Sabres vs. Wild preseason game.
“It’s not something he could play through,” head coach Lindy Ruff said. “It was something that came up…When we had the MRI yesterday, it was found he needed to have it operated on.”
