TSN is reporting that Rangers prospect Alexei Cherepanov collapsed during the third period of a KHL game and attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

The devastating news comes days after the Vancouver Canucks paid tribute to fallen prospect Luc Bourdon.

Cherepanov was drafted by the Rangers in the 1st round, 17th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing with Omsk Avanguard of the KHL, Cherepanov had 7 goals and 5 assists through 14 games this year.

TSN had the following quote from his agent, Jay Grossman.

“He had a great smile and was an outstanding player with a great future on and off the ice. It’s both shocking and devastating news for all of us.”

FF extends its condolences to his family, teammates, friends, and to all of Blueshirt nation during this trying time.
