Playoff Game 3: Penguins 3 vs. Lightning 2

Penguins lead the series 2-1.

vs.

Quick Recap

The Pittsburgh Penguins survived the Tampa Bay Lightning power play once again by scoring 3 even strength goals to earn a 3-2 win in Tampa Bay.

For the third straight game, the Penguins lost the special teams battle – going 0 for 2 on the PP while giving up 2 PP goals to Martin St. Louis.

The Penguins power play has been a serious problem all season and this has not changed in the playoffs. Their penalty kill has also struggled since Matt Cooke’s suspension. These areas need to be improved upon immediately.

The Penguins have carried the play at even strength but their undisciplined play has allowed Tampa Bay to stay in each and every game.

Kris Letang had a monster game at both ends of the ice as did Martin St. Louis.

Playoff Game 3: Flyers 4 vs Sabres 2

Flyers lead the series 2-1.

vs.

Quick Recap
The Flyers have turned away from rookie Sergei Bobrovsky after only 2 games and have shifted the starter’s workload to the veteran Brian Boucher. Bobrovsky has struggled in two postseason games so far, as he did the second half of the season, and has been replaced by Boucher.

Last year’s playoff hero for Philadelphia, Michael Leighton, dressed as the second goalie proving that Bobrovsky has probably seen his last playoff action of the season.

Unlikely heroes for both teams stepped up in this game even though Buffalo came out on the short end.

AHL scoring leader among defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani had 2 assists and now leads Buffalo in post season scoring with 4 points.

After the injury to Andreas Nodl allowed him to return to the lineup, Nikolay Zherdev scored the game winning goal despite only skating 8:14 seconds.

Zherdev, a healthy scratch for much of the year, got his first career playoff point in his 8th career game.
