Tavares a star in first game with Knights
Phenom John Tavares scored two goals and added one assist in his first game with the London Knights after being traded three days earlier earlier from the Oshawa Generals. Tavares played with a number of different wingers, but it didn’t seem to matter who they were, as the star skated all over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in a 7-3 win. Tavares received several standing ovations throughout the night from a home crowd at the packed John Labatt Center. Teammate Mike Del Zotto, also involved in the trade, also scored a goal of his own. With these two players on board, the Knights may well be the new favorites in the running for the Memorial Cup, though it is still early.

Kane’s great month continues
Evander Kane of the Vancouver Giants has been named the Boston Pizza WHL Player of the Week only a few short days after winning the gold medal at the 2008-2009 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa with Team Canada. Kane contributed greatly to the Canadian squad, and he maintained that standing upon returning to his junior club. Kane had four goals and two assists in two Giants wins this week as the team keeps driving toward one of the best records in CHL history (currently 34-3-0-3).

Memorial Cup hits the internet as games inch closer

MastercardMemorialCup.com. The games will be held in Rimouski, Quebec, and will feature the top four teams across the Canadian Hockey League’s three member leagues.
