Lately, it seems as if the Robert Morris Colonials go as their star talent goes.

As always, Nathan Longpre sent Colonial fans home with something to talk about, netting a fantastic overtime goal off of a shot that initially hit the post but somehow found it’s way into the net.

The game was tight for a full 60 minutes, and RMU exhibited great stretches of hockey where they carried the play for elongated amounts of time in the Colgate zone.

Furman South started the scoring at the end of the first for RMU off of a nice set of passes from Andrew Blazek and James Lyle.

In the second period, Colgate tied the game with the goaltender pulled on a delayed penalty. The Raiders not only scored, but drew another late call and immediately went to the power-play.

RMU’s special teams exhibited great resilience throughout the game, lead by forwards Ron Cramer and Nick Chiavetta.

RMU took the lead back at the end of the 2nd period off of the stick of star defenseman Dennis Urban. Adam Brace and Nathan Longpre had the assists. The goal was a 5-3 opportunity.

After a dominant performance in the third, RMU found themselves shorthanded late in the third with 2:30 to go. Colgate pulled their goaltender to make it 6-4 and successfully notched a marker to tie the game and force an overtime period.

It was a goal that RMU didn’t deserve. They’d worked very hard, played the right way, and weren’t rewarded for it.

However, this wouldn’t be another instance of RMU leaving a win on the ice. Nathan Longpre would ensure that the Colonials would send Colgate home miserable on this cold Saturday night.

Longpre came down the near boards, fired a shot that hit the post, but still found its way into the net.

The win gives the Colonials their 10th, matching their total from last year. They are now unbeaten in their last 5 games.

Senior defenseman Dennis Urban will lead the Colonials in a matinee performance against Colgate this afternoon at 4:05. Urban has notched a point in all but 3 games this season.
