Week 5 Power Rankings
Mike Adams | Inside The Numbers
Nov 6, 11:38 AM | Hype this story!
I used five categories (PP, PK, 5-on-5, Regulation record, and Last 10 games record) to determine which teams statistically are the best in the NHL at the current time.
The power play and penalty kill are adjusted for shorthanded goals allowed/scored. I use 5-on-5 because that becomes more important come playoff time. Same for regulation record, as it eliminates the “goofy golf” aspect of 4-on-4 overtime and the shootouts which aren’t part of the playoffs anyway.
Each team is ranked 1-30 in each category, then I add all the ranks together. Those are the numbers you will see below.

Mike, where are the Pens if you toss out 5 on 5? That’s where they have to improve imo to be a playoff threat.
