A fairly large crowd gathered to witness the next step in building a new arena for the city of Pittsburgh. We all got to our preferred spots in the “safe zone” and set up tripods, video cameras, still cameras, microphones, etc and waited. I personally was expecting a large countdown/fanfare before the event, which was scheduled for 2:15pm, so I was surprised when inestead I simply heard a long sequence of large explosions which cued me to start taking pictures. The building came down successfully and was quite a sight for a first timer like myself. Once the dust settled it was eerie to see just the remains of a fairly large structure in a pile on the ground and the newfound view of a parking structure formerly obscured by the hospital. It was definitely worth the trip downtown to watch!
