FF Summer Block Party: College Hockey Coverage Plans

Well, it’s all over. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Chicago Wolves are the only hockey teams left playing, and that means all the hockey beat writers except for our buddy Jonathan Bombulie over in WB/S are done writing for a few months.

Except us. We don’t sleep. Well, we do. Just at odd times. Times that make our mothers groan and mutter strange things about “wasting our day” and “you better be a vampire”. We try and block those things out, though. We’re positive people.

Anyway, after shifting gears away from the amateur hockey world faster than we expected – and for a longer time than we expected – Faceoff Factor is hitching up our pants and saddling up for some summer college hockey festivities. Roughly every Monday, beginning June 9th, we’ll have a new article up for you, plus some extras in between.

So here’s what to expect throughout the coming months (dates are subject to change):

JUNE
Schedules and Tournaments (Begins 6/9) – Throughout the month, we’ll look at some of the schedules that are released – from local teams to some of the top teams from the past season, as well as the key tournaments.

NHL Draft Preview (6/16) – Which college athletes are expected to go in the 2008 Entry Draft? Will it be as impressive of a haul as last year?

NHL Draft Review (6/20-6/23) – After all the picks are in on June 20/21, we’ll let the dust settle and come back with a full review of the selections

JULY
Coaching Changes, New Arenas (7/7) – Which programs are being adjusted with new faces, new buildings, and a general infusion of cash?

_Coming and Going (7/14) _ – Which key players have left their teams and which players are coming back despite having options elsewhere? Plus, who has the best recruiting classes to help replenish any departing players?

Schedules and Tournaments (7/21) – A continued look at key dates in the college hockey schedules and major in-season tournaments.

AUGUST
Season Preview Kick-Off (Begins 8/11) – The week-by-week preview of the various conferences that was such a hit last year will begin a few weeks later this year, running all the way through October to the beginning of the season.

TO BE DETERMINED
Breaking News (As Needed) And of course, keep it here for the latest breaking news in the college hockey world. Now that we’re back on the beat, we’ll make sure everyone stays in touch with the latest news. One story to keep an eye on is the future of the CHA. Speculation has been rampant for months that we could have a decision from the likes of Niagara and Robert Morris regarding their future and the conference’s future during these summer months.

See you on Monday!
