With the NHL Trade Deadline little more than a month away, GM Ray Shero is likely going to be busy trying to swing a deal that will improve the Penguins roster. This is a list of players with whom Shero should start. There is much potential on the trade market, but how much he is willing to give up is the question.
After a brief stint in the NHL, defenseman Ben Lovejoy is being returned to the AHL to make room for Philippe Boucher. Boucher returns from an undisclosed injury which kept him out for nearly two weeks.
According to PSI, the Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled Janne Pesonen from the WBS Penguins.
Daryl Sydor is no longer a Penguin. He returns to Dallas in an attempt to rejuvenate his career.
After being hurt in Thursday’s 4-1 loss in Phoenix, Crosby was listed as day-to-day. He will return tonight, though.

The Penguins have done well to replace those that they have lost so far this off-season. However, with the losses of Malone, Ruutu, Roberts, and Laraque, the team lacks a physical presence. Eric Godard remains the only winger that was signed to replace some of that physicality. Who could the Penguins turn to as enforcers? Here is a list of all the available enforcers left on the market.
The Penguins made some good moves yesterday to sure up their line-up for next season. Ruslan Fedotenko and Miroslav Satan were added to the roster, and Marc-Andre Fleury was signed long-term. Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports on the players’, agents’, and GM’s reactions to the signings.
The Penguins added two free-agent wingers today and re-signed their starting goaltender. Marc-Andre Fleury was locked up for seven years. The deal is believed to be work $35 million. They also signed one year deals with two wingers, Miroslav Satan and Ruslan Fedotenko. Satan will receive $3.5 million; Fedotenko will receive $2.5 million.
Upon reading of the resigning of Brooks Orpik, I began wondering what the blue line would look like next year. We have 8 NHL caliber defensemen and one on the fringe. Many would agree that Sydor is one of the defensemen who will be pushed off the game roster. Who else goes though?
Against the thought of many, money was not the number one priority for Marian Hossa. The Stanley Cup was, however. But why choose Detroit over Pittsburgh?

Evgeni Malkin has been rumored to desire a contract exceeding team captain Sidney Crosby’s $8.7 Million/year deal. However, it appears Malkin may be easier to sign than has been reported.
It has long been speculated that Brooks Orpik and Michel Therrien did not get along. This caused many fans and media members to believe that Orpik would not be returning to Pittsburgh next year. Combine that with Orpik’s play during the Penguins’ late season surge (especially his four-hit-in-fifteen-seconds shift in the finals) and Orpik looked as good as gone. His stock rose drastically because of his play late in the season and in the playoffs. However, Orpik gives hope to fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins that he may yet return.
For the first time, Marian Hossa has given us some indication of what may come during this off-season. Many have felt that Hossa would command top dollar and go to the highest bidder. However, Hossa explained that that was not necessarily the case.
