We have just one more pre-tournament ranking to do after this week. That one is March 18. On March 24th and 25th, in lieu of a weekend recap and power rankings, we will have a tournament preview. Tournament coverage will follow all through the Frozen Four, which ends April 12th.
The final power ranking of the year will be April 14th, a Monday.
This week’s comment details where the team sits in their conference tournament.
THE TOP 20:
1. (1) North Dakota (23-8-4) – WCHA
Number two seed and perhaps the best equipped to win it all.
2. (2) Michigan (27-5-4) – CCHA
Number one seed and the favorite, but they could get Ferris State
3. (3) Colorado College (26-9-1) – WCHA
Number one seed, but they’re on track to deal with Denver.
4. (4) Miami of Ohio (29-6-1) – CCHA
Number two seed, and perhaps a better pick since they could avoid Ferris.
5. (6) New Hampshire (23-8-3) – Hockey East
Number one seed and the odds-on favorite.
6. (5) Denver (22-13-1) – WCHA
Number three seed, perhaps a sleeper pick.
7. (7) Michigan State (23-9-5) – CCHA
Number three seed, but likely an at-large pick for NCAAs.
8. (8) Notre Dame (22-12-4) – CCHA
Number four seed, could lose immediately to Ferris State.
9. (9) Clarkson (20-10-4) – ECAC
Number one seed, and if they don’t win, it’ll be a shocker.
10. (10) St. Cloud State (17-14-5) – WCHA
Number five seed and they’ll have to go through North Dakota.
11. (11) Boston College (17-11-8) – Hockey East
Number four seed and a tough hill to climb.
12. (12) Niagara (20-10-4) – CHA
Number two seed, but the favorite considering Bemidji just isn’t all that good.
13. (13) Air Force (19-11-6) – Atlantic Hockey
Number three seed and a possibility to win it all.
14. (14) RIT (19-11-6) – Atlantic Hockey
Number two seed and also a possible contender.
15. (15) Princeton (17-12-0) – ECAC
Number two seed and perhaps the only other option besides Clarkson.
16. (16) Army (19-13-4) – Atlantic Hockey
Number one seed and one of the early favorites, considering they get the winner of the play-in game.
17. (17) Boston University (17-15-4) – Hockey East
A surprising number two seed and the sleeper pick.
18. (18) Minnesota State (18-14-4) – WCHA
Number four seed and the ultimate sleeper pick.
19. (19) Wisconsin (15-14-7) – WCHA
Number six seed and with very little hope.
20. (20) Harvard (14-11-4) – ECAC
Number three seed, and a final appearance would be a success.
