Robert Morris University and athletic director Dr. Craig Coleman have extended men’s hockey coach Derek Schooley’s contract until May 2013.

Schooley’s contract initially ran until 2011, but Coleman and the coach agreed to a two year extension as the team prepares for the second annual Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase.

Robert Morris faces Ohio State tonight at the Mellon Arena at 8pm.

Schooley has been the only head coach in the four year history of the program, was influential in bringing in an initial class of talented players. Robert Morris made the College Hockey America conference championship game last year, had a 4-0 lead, but eventually lost to Alabama-Huntsville 5-4 in overtime.

The Colonials are one of two favorites with Niagara to win the CHA this year.

The official news release is located at the RMU website .

I may have missed this somewhere, but has RMU found a conference to play in next year yet? Apparently with this news, the program is going to continue.
