Last night a huge brawl occured in 7-5 Ak Bars victory in the RSL.

Ak Bars goaltender, former Philadelphia Flyer Robert Esche, kicked a rebound wide and it was shoved back into the goal after the whistle by a Traktor forward. Melee ensued for the next 5 minutes.

Alexei Morozov, former Penguin, was involved in the brawl. He is wearing #95 in white.

Perhaps its me, but I only saw Morozov after the fighting was over, a Penguins-like disappearence?

In seriousness, that No. 30 for Traktor (I think) should go with Downie, would be amusing.

That #30, in TRUE seriousness, obviously has self-control issues and shouldn’t be allowed to play in ANY league.

Unbelievable video. That must have been absolutely insane.

According to James Mirtle, 378 penalty minutes were issued for that brawl (or series of brawls, depending on how you view it). It also involved former NHL’ers Sergei Zinovjev, Ray Giroux, Petr Cajanek, Denis Arkhipov, Oleg Petrov, Nikita Alexeev and Mika Noronen, and Andrei Nikolishin, in addition to Esche and Morozov.

    Wow.

That whole scene was out of control for too long. The refs were clearly powerless with so many players involved. I wonder if that was at Kazan or at Traktor’s home-ice.

I really couldn’t tell you. I didn’t get a chance to watch closely enough to differentiate between the teams — but I did notice one player going off the ice holding his hands in the air, which got a big crowd response. I think that would be the best portion of the video to make a distinction between the home and away team — but even then, I believe he is without a jersey.

    Wow. Talk about losing control…

I saw that guy who held his arms up in the air and the crowd cheered. He was wearing green pants, and that’s Ak Bars, I believe. Could be wrong on that, though…

White-Green it’s Ak Bars. And this fight was at Bars home arena.

Correction. The goalie for Ak Bars Kazan was Mika Noronen, not Robert Esche. As you can see Noronen ended up bloodied after the Traktor goalie skated the length of the ice and found him in the pile. The game was played in Kazan. It was actually a great game aside from the fighting and you can see the whole match here: http://russianhockey.wordpress.com/2008/01/25/rsl-game-of-the-week-traktor-chelyabinsk-ak-bars-kazan-01082008/
