I hate the fact that we have to report news like this.

Mickey Renaud, the team captain of the Windsor Spitfires and Calgary Flames prospect, passed away today at the age of 19.

Early reports said he collapsed sometime late this morning at his home in Tecumseh, ON. He was taken to the hospital but efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful. He died around noon. There were some reports that suggested Renaud may have suffered a brain aneurysm, but those reports are unconfirmed.

Spitfired general manager Warren Rychel called this, “the biggest tragedy in Spitfires history. Words alone cannot describe our pain at this time.” The Spitfires are also coached by former Penguins defenseman Bob Boughner.

The Renaud family and the Windsor Spitfires family are all in our thoughts and prayers at this time.
