The Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League made an announcement today regarding the restructuring of the organization. Current Owner Brent Sutter is stepping down as General Manager and Head Coach. The Rebels won’t be without a Sutter behind the bench as brother Brian will take over coaching duties. Brian’s last NHL stop was with the Chicago Blackhawks from 2001-04. He won the Jack Adams Award in 1991 with the St. Louis Blues as the league’s best coach. Former NHL defenseman Jesse Wallin will join him behind the bench as Associate coach.

It is interesting to note that the New Jersey Devils still have a coaching vacancy, and many are speculating that Brent Sutter will be their next bench boss. Brent would be a great decision for the Devils, he has worked with Canada’s junior program and solidified that program with an astute team concept. Guys like Greene, Zajac and Parise all could learn a lot from this hiring.
