The Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL have come to affiliation terms with a new team. The Nailers came to an agreement today with the Philadelphia Flyers of the NHL for the 2007-2008 season. “This is truly an exciting announcement for us to make.” Said Nailers President Jim Brooks “We have always had two main goals in our hockey operations; to win games on the ice and to help our players reach their goals of moving up and someday playing in the NHL. This affiliation will help us achieve both – now we will have players on our team from two great NHL organizations and our players will have two sets of eyes continuously watching their development.”
Paul Holmgren, General Manager of the Flyers said, “We are excited to be affiliated with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. Moving away from Trenton is obviously something new for us, but we are really looking forward to starting a working relationship with Wheeling.”
The Nailers are replacing the Trenton Titans of the ECHL for Philadelphia AA minor league team. The Titans were affiliated with the Flyers for the past seven years (from 1990-2007).
The Nailers will now be shared by both NHL teams in the state of Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers. Lets see if this new affiliation will add more fuel to the cross state “fire”.

Ugh, I hope this doesn’t detract from the Penguins-Nailers affiliation in any way. Sorry guys, but I DETEST Philly in any way, shape or form!

Well, I don’t think there is much to worry about with this. Few “true” NHL prospects ever spend a lengthy amount of time in the ECHL. Plus, if you recall, the Penguins shared the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton “Baby” Penguins of the AHL with the Edmonton Oilers last season, and it worked out just fine.

But, but, but….Edmonton isn’t Philly! :P
