AHL's Iowa to Offer Contract to Favre

The Iowa Stars, the AHL club that served as the primary affiliate of the Dallas Stars, has gone under some major changes in both name and business practices. The Dallas Stars broke their affiliation with Iowa and signed on with a new team, aptly named, the Texas Stars (AHL). Iowa now needed a new identity, and they got one.

The Iowa Chops.

A revamped AHL franchise, that is affiliated with the Anaheim Ducks, has a new logo of a rather ornery looking boar with its mouth wide open ready to fight and/or bite. Similarly, Chops President Steve Nitzel is ready to make a similar effort in the public spotlight.

Besides excellent merchandise sales, Nitzel is going for yet another homerun – or touchdown. The Chops will offer a contract to Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

“Brett is one of the greatest American athletes of the past 50 years and deserves a place to play, so we are extending an offer to him to become the newest member of the Iowa Chops Hockey team of the American Hockey League,” said Nitzel regarding the offer.

The club has contacted and will be sending a bona-fide offer to Favre’s agent, ‘Bus’ Cook Jr., in attempt to lure him into another sport in a similar fashion to Bo Jackson or Michael Jordan.

“We can offer him plenty of bone-crushing hits, read-and-react plays, and thousands of fans cheering for him, so what’s not to like about that?” Nitzel reasoned. “All we have to do is sharpen his skating skills and after that, his athletic instincts will take over and he’ll be one heck of a hockey player.”

No response as of yet from the Favre camp.

Oh wow. What a stupid idea by the Chops. I'm sure thousands of fans would cheer like nuts if Favre showed up, unable to skate, handle the puck, or do anything else on the ice except fall down.

What a strange way to get press…

It would be one thing if he was from Iowa, but this is just odd.

Ashley I couldn’t agree more it seems as though this guy knows nothing about hockey. I don’t care how good of an athlete you are to be some one of Farve’s age and try to transition into a new sport is insane especially Hockey. I think this is just a big joke though.
