  • Chiefs re-sign Knight

The Chiefs have resigned defenseman Mike Knight (press release). In 55 games last season, Knight was 2nd on the team in terms of scoring, with 34 points. A physical, puck-moving defenseman, Knight had 137 penalty minutes last season, including 4 fighting majors.

  • Chiefs trade for two

Alexandre Imbeault, the all-star forward who totalled 62 points in 56 games with the Chiefs last season, has been traded to the Alaska Aces for forwards Matt Robinson and Michael Lambert (Trib article). Though talks with Imbeault had been ongoing, the two sides were unable to come to terms.

Robinson, who has agreed to terms, has Kelly Cup experience, having played in 23 Kelly Cup games in the past two season. A goal-scorer, Robinson had 19 goals (37 points) for the Aces last season.

In the case of Michael Lambert, the Chiefs acquired only his rights. Lambert has extensive AHL experience, playing 128 games with the Hamilton Bulldogs.

  • Free gas, anyone?

As a thank you to their fans, the Chiefs are giving $100 in free gas to those buy a minimum of 30 flex tickets (press release). The promotion runs through October 10.

  • Nailers sign sophmore defenseman

The Nailers have signed defenseman Jeremy Scherlinck (press release). A stay-at-home defenseman, Scherlinck had a successful rookie season with the Idaho Steelheads. At 6’3, 210 pounds, Scherlinck brings a large defensive presence to the Nailers’ blueline.

  • Do you play amateur hockey?

If so, the Nailers announced that teams are now forming for the 08-09 WAHA Senior League (press release). Cost is $125 per person, and an IMR from USA Hockey is needed.

  • Nailers re-sign Snavely

The Nailers announced that they’ve re-signed defenseman Chris Snavely (press release). Snavely, 25, is coming of a rookie season where he was one of four defensemen to play in over 50 games for the club. He recorded 18 points and 38 penalty minutes in 57 games with the Nailers.

  • Jeff Dwyer, a 27-year old former defenseman for the Utah Grizzlies, has chosen to retire to be an assistant coach for the team.

    Looks like the Nailers are doing exactly what head coach Puhalski promised, strengthen the blue line and play gritty D. This is refreshing, as the defensive unit was sorely lacking any physical presence last season. Thanks for the updates.
