In an expected, if late, announcement, AHL President Dave Andrews has announced that the AHL teams will be using the same RBK “uniform systems” as the NHL will be using this year.
Opening night of the AHL season is on Wednesday, October 3. All jerseys will be unveiled before that date, at least officially. More likely, the jerseys will be shown by September 21, the start of the preseason for the AHL.
Four teams have unveiled their jerseys as part of this announcement today. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Chicago Wolves, Norfolk Admirals, and Providence Bruins showed their new uniforms to the public. The Chicago Wolves and Providence Bruins jerseys look unchanged. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers used a slightly different color scheme, using an orange away jersey and blue home jersey, as opposed to the normal white and black used by most teams.
Lastly, the Norfolk Admirals jerseys show the most change. Possibly because of their new affiliation with the Tampa Bay Lightning, blue has been added to the white and red that the team had been using.
These jerseys can be viewed at theahl.com under the ‘fan galleries’ section as well as on each team’s web site.
In this writer’s opinion, the black Providence Bruins jersey is the most ‘classic’ design while the new blue Norfolk Admirals jersey is the best looking jersey of the eight. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
