ECHL to Use Reebok Edge Jerseys for All-Star Game Only

The ECHL’s Glen Thornbrough was kind enough to take a couple minutes out of his schedule today and return my phone call about his league’s contract with Reebok and the controversial Edge Uniform System that is currently causing problems for players in the NHL.

Thornbrough said that at the start of the ECHL season, Reebok had only made Edge jerseys for 11 of the EHCL’s 25 teams. To maintain consistency the league decided not to switch to the new jerseys. This decision was made prior to some NHL players complaining that the Edge jerseys trapped sweat, causing it to pool in their gloves, pants, shin guards and skates. However, the ECHL will use the Edge jerseys in their All-Star Game on January 23rd in Stockton, California.

Thornbrough closed by volunteering that the ECHL’s business relationship with Reebok remains excellent.

I put in a similar call to the AHL’s media relations department but have not as yet heard back.
