| The Story | With Brian Burke at the helm, the Ducks are always Cup contenders and always after the biggest names on the market. Since Neidermayer’s return the Ducks have been on quite the tear and with Selanne back in the fold they were propelled into "Cup favorite" territory by some. | ||
| Tradable Assets | Mathieu Schneider, D, 1 year left, $5.625 mil Todd Marchant, C, 1 year left, ~$2.518 mil Bobby Ryan, RW, 2 years left, ~$1.922 mil Ryan Carter, C, RFA, $850,000 Brian Sutherby, C, RFA, $800,000 |
||
| Areas of Need | Second line center, a rental that sparks the offense | ||
| Potential Targets | Mats Sundin, Maple Leafs, C, UFA, $5.5 mil Marian Hossa, Thrashers, RW, UFA, $6 mil Mike Comrie, Islanders, C, UFA, $3.375 mil Olli Jokinen, Panthers, C, 2 years left, $5.25 mil |
||
| Prediction | Brian Burke has everything in place to make a big move, whether he pulls the trigger is a whole different story. I believe that Sundin becomes a Duck at the deadline, but a lot can happen between now and then. Worst case scenario, he does nothing and is still a Cup favorite. | ||

| The Story | The Pacific Division leading Stars can credit much of their success to a strong defensive system that is highlighted by good two-way stars who can put the puck in the net. Marty Turco silenced many critics by putting together one of the best goaltending performances by a first round loser in quite some time. The Stars are a quiet team that could make a lot of noise in the playoffs. | ||
| Tradable Assets | Mattias Norstrom, D, UFA, $4.25 mil Phillipe Boucher, D, 1 year left, $2.5 mil Jussi Jokinen, LW, 1 year left, $1.813 mil Antti Miettinen, RW, UFA, $885,000 Mark Fistric, D, 1 year left, $788,889 Trevor Daley, D, RFA, $787,500 Nicklas Grossman, D, RFA, $600,000 |
||
| Areas of Need | Offensive winger to spark the offense, replace any defenseman lost to trade | ||
| Potential Targets | Marian Hossa, Thrashers, RW, UFA, $6 mil Brad Richards, Lightning, C, 3 years left, $7.8 mil Petr Prucha, Rangers, C, 1 year left, $1.6 mil Olli Jokinen, Panthers, C, 2 years left, $5.25 mil Mats Sundin, Maple Leafs, C, UFA, $5.5 mil Jaromir Jagr, Rangers, RW, UFA*, $4.94 mil Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Wild, C, RFA, $2.6 mil Jason Blake, Maple Leafs, LW, 4 years left, $4 mil |
||
| Prediction | The Stars have been attached to a lot of names and with new co-GM’s calling the shots, we may see a big deal get done. The Stars have developed a lot of good, young talent especially on the blueline and they may use that to their advantage at the deadline. The Stars have a lot of assets to give and might just grab a big piece to make a Cup run with. | ||

| The Story | Another disappointing year for the Los Angeles Kings. They added some bigger names through free agency but it didn’t do much. They’d be best served moving them and trying again with different players or players of their own. Calling up Dan Cloutier confirms that they can out "tank" anyone. | ||
| Tradable Assets | Rob Blake, D, UFA, $6 mil Ladislav Nagy, LW, UFA, $3.75 mil Brad Stuart, D, UFA, $3.5 mil Michael Cammalleri, C, UFA, $3.35 mil Tom Preissing, D, 3 years left, $2.75 mil Kyle Calder, LW, 1 year left, $2.7 mil Scott Thornton, LW, UFA, $1.5 mil Lauri Tukonen, RW, 1 year left, $885,780 Brian Willsie, RW, UFA, $850,000 |
||
| Areas of Need | Better players | ||
| Potential Targets | Brad Richards, Lightning, C, 3 years left, $7.8 mil Olli Jokinen, Panthers, C, 2 years left, $5.25 mil Joni Pitkanen, Oilers, D, RFA, $2.4 mil Vincent Lecavalier, Lightning, C, 1 year left, $6.875 mil Tuomo Ruutu, Blackhawks, C, RFA, $1.875 mil |
||
| Prediction | They already moved Modry for better than the MSRP, for Kings fans let’s hope that Lombardi makes that a trend. However, Rob Blake might not waive his no-trade clause, which means he will be booed until the season is over. Nagy is battling a neck injury and Stuart might not be going anywhere. That lowers expectations a little bit for L.A. but the more moves they make, the better they will be next year. | ||

| The Story | The Coyotes have crept awfully close to a playoff spot under Ilya Bryzgalov. The young guys are coming along nicely and it’s smooth sailing through calm seas on the rebuilding front. | ||
| Tradable Assets | Nick Boynton, D, 1 year left, $2.95 mil Radim Vrbata, RW, UFA, $1.225 mil Mike York, LW, UFA, $1 mil Niko Kapanen, C, UFA, $850,000 Fredrik Sjostrom, RW, RFA, $775,000 |
||
| Areas of Need | Upgrade defensive defensemen, scoring depth | ||
| Potential Targets | Colby Armstrong, Penguins, RW, 1 year left, $1.2 mil Antoine Vermette, Senators, LW, RFA, $1 mil Trevor Daley, Stars, D, RFA, $787,500 Ole-Kristian Tollefsen, Blue Jackets, D, 1 year left, $675,000 Matt Foy, Wild, RW, RFA, $506,000 Kevin Klein, Predators, D, RFA, $500,000 |
||
| Prediction | They will shop for a suitor for the only disliked Coyote, Mike York, failing that, nothing happens unless there’s an overpayment for Vrbata or Reinprecht or Boynton that convinces Maloney to take the picks and prospects again. | ||

| The Story | The Sharks had pretty lofty aspirations going into the season and are looking to propel themselves over fellow Western Conference foes at the deadline. Most of the pieces are in place, even though the team is an enigma at times. A few crafty moves by Doug Wilson and the Sharks could go deep into the playoffs. | ||
| Tradable Assets | Patrick Marleau, C, 2 years left, $6.3 mil Matt Carle, D, 4 years left, ~$3.438 mil Kyle McLaren, D, 1 year left, $2.5 mil Lukas Kaspar, RW, RFA, ~$1.158 mil Joe Pavelski, C, RFA, $850,000 Alexei Semenov, D, UFA, $650,000 Patrick Rissmiller, C, UFA, $557,500 |
||
| Areas of Need | Puck-moving defenseman, scoring depth, backup goalie with playoff experience | ||
| Potential Targets | Brian Campbell, Sabres, D, UFA, $1.5 mil Dan Boyle, Lightning, D, UFA, ~$3.333 mil Marian Hossa, Thrashers, RW, UFA, $6 mil Olli Jokinen, Panthers, C, 2 years left, $5.25 mil Rob Blake, Kings, D, UFA, $6 mil Bobby Holik, Thrashers, C, UFA, $4.25 mil Johan Hedberg, Thrashers, G, UFA, $1 mil |
||
| Prediction | The Sharks are underachieving and Doug Wilson isn’t known as a big shopper. The Sharks might have to "settle" for a blockbuster that costs them their captain. This trade deadline could cause monumental changes to the Sharks franchise. | ||

Nicely done! Especially the draft pick page. It really is hard to keep up with all the traded picks.
I think that LA has 7 picks in the first 3 rounds or something…
If they could get a solid goalie until Bernier is ready, they will be very good, very soon….(PS, they are my 2nd favorite team)...

Thanks KG, and the Kings are my distant second favorite team too…LaBarbera is the decent goalie until Bernier is ready though, the Kings lack of success has not been Babs fault at all…he’s been one of the best Kings all year…but yeah, a goalie upgrade is never a bad idea when you look down the bench and see Aubin sometimes and Cloutier others…
