GAME OF THE NIGHT
Ottawa Senators vs. Los Angeles Kings
Another rookie goaltender, another shutout. This was a great defensive battle, but the Kings came out on top.

Toronto Maple Leafs 8 – Boston Bruins 2
Hello? Boston defense, are you there? In this game and the game against the Capitals on March 3, the Bruins gave up 18 goals combined. That is an astronomical number, especially considering that Tim Thomas was number two in the league in save percentage before those games. They are slowly dropping in the standings and cannot afford to fall much farther. The Maple Leafs, on the other hand, have won seven of their past ten. Perhaps Sundin’s decision to stay has provided stability.
Three Stars
1 McCabe, TOR (1 G, 3 A, 4 P)
2 Kaberle, TOR (0 G, 2 A, 2 P)
3 Toskala, TOR (27 saves)

New York Rangers 4 – New York Islanders 1
The Rangers have been playing spectacular hockey recently, going 8-0-3 in their last 11. DiPietro returned to the team after the death of his grandmother. However, Dubliewicz got the start because of his play during DiPietro’s absence. This win pole-vaulted the Rangers over the Bruins for sixth place in the East.
Three Stars
1 Lundqvist, NYR (26 saves)
2 Avery, NYR (2 G, 0 A, 2 P)
3 Shanahan, NYR (1 G, 0 A, 1 P)
Attendance: 16,234

Tampa Bay Lightning 2 – Philadelphia Flyers 3
This game looked like it was heading to overtime. However, Jeff Carter had different plans. He has been very clutch lately and this game was no exception. He scored the game winning goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game. This was a good win for the Flyers who had lost their previous two games. Amazingly, the Lightning only managed two shots on goal in the third period.
Three Stars
1 Carter, PHI (2 G, 0 A, 2 P)
2 Picard, TB (0 G, 0 A, 0 P)
3 Cote, PHI (0 G, 0 A, 0 P)

Minnesota Wild 2 – Carolina Hurricanes 3
The Wild cannot afford many more losses if they wish to stay in the playoff race, they find themselves tied with Calgary at the top of the Northwest Division. They are also a dismal 4-5-1 in their last ten game. Conversely, the Hurricanes lead the Southeast Division by 5 points and have been playing well. They are 7-2-1 in their previous ten games.
Three Stars
1 Cole, CAR (1 G, 0 A, 1 P)

Pittsburgh Penguins 2 – Florida Panthers 5
Combine two quick Panther goals with Anderson’s play in the past couple games and this one looked to be over as soon as it started. Though Anderson did not get a shutout, he still pulled out the victory. Fleury struggled again with rebounds leading to two goals in the first period. Florida dominated in the first period in every aspect, including face-offs, shots, scoring chances, and goals. Conklin came in to relieve Fleury at the start of the second period. He fared better, only allowing one goal, but it was not enough. The Pens had received a point in every game in which Letang scores a goal, until tonight. They simply looked sloppy and disorganized. Malkin was also held scoreless and, therefore, makes up no ground on Ovechkin who still holds a three point edge.
Three Stars
1 Weiss, FLA (1 G, 1 A, 2 P)
2 Booth, FLA (1 G, 1 A, 2 P)
3 Anderson, FLA (25 saves)
Attendance: 17,012

Anaheim Ducks 0 – Colorado Avalanche 1
Wolski scored the only goal in this game about halfway through the second period. Theodore recorded the shutout to earn the victory, as the Avalanche are now on a five game win streak. They are now breathing down the necks of the Wild and the Flames for the number one spot in the Northwest Division, trailing by only a point. The Ducks are on their own streak, two straight games without a single goal. Corey Perry was carted off of the ice, so that does not figure to help.
Three Stars
1 Theodore, COL (27 saves)
2 Wolski, COL (1 G, 0 A, 1 P)
3 Hiller, ANA (29 saves)

Nashville Predators 2 – Vancouver Canucks 6
This was a big game for Vancouver. This victory tied them with the Predators for 8th place in the West. Vancouver has been doing well as of late, going 5-2-3 in their last ten. The Predators, however, have been slipping. Their last ten games have resulted in a 4-4-2 record, 0-2-2 in their last four. The Canucks scored early in this one, 37 seconds into the game. They added three more before the first intermission came. Vancouver maintained constant pressure, scoring 6 goals on 44 shots in the game.

Ottawa Senators 0 – Los Angeles Kings 2
The Ottawa Senators are in a free-fall. They have gone 3-5-2 in their last ten games. The only Eastern teams who have fared worse in that time frame are the Thrashers and the Lightning, the two teams in the Conference with the fewest points. There seem to be a plethora of young goalies getting their first wins and first shutouts in the same game. Add Erik Ersberg to that list. He made 40 saves in his third NHL start to record his first NHL win and shutout. Gerber also played well, allowing only one goal in the 31 shots that he faced (the second goal was an empty netter). Alfreddson sat out again due to back spasms. The Senators will be glad to see him return as they have lost 8 of the 9 games that he has missed this season.
Three Stars
1 Ersberg, LA (40 saves)
2 Gerber, OTT (30 saves)
3 Kopitar, LA (0 G, 1 A, 1 P)
Attendance: 17,580
