Tampa Bay Lightning 1 – New Jersey Devils 2 OT
Zach Parise was an assist away from the Gordie Howe Hat Trick in this one. He scored a goal in the first period (his third in two games) and fought Dan Boyle in the third period. It was Parise’s first NHL fight. Tampa Bay is in a downward spiral, going 1-7-2 in their last ten. New Jersey, conversely, has gone 7-2-1 in their last ten and have taken sole possession of the number one spot in the East with the Canadiens and Penguins a point behind.

Edmonton Oilers 2 – Columbus Blue Jackets 1 OT
The game of the night for Friday. This was a difficult decision as five of the six games played on Friday went to overtime. However, the Blue Jackets tied the game up with Fritsche netting one with less than a second left. They ended up losing in overtime, but they showed a lot of heart to earn a point in this one.

Minnesota Wild 2 – Atlanta Thrashers 3 SO
Ex-Penguins, Colby Armstrong and Eric Christenson, had a large effect on this game. Armstrong scored the Thrashers first goal and Christenson scored the only goal in the shootout to earn this win. Atlanta had to come from behind in this one. Kovalchuck scored with less than a minute left in the third to force overtime. The Wild could have taken over first place from Calgary if they had won this game, since the Flames lost in overtime as well. However, they are now in a tie with the Flames for the top spot.

San Jose Sharks 3 – Chicago Blackhawks 2
The Chicago Blackhawks were the only team that played on Friday to not receive a point. They still have a shot at the playoffs but they must play some inspired hockey until the end of the season. They are six points out of the final playoff spot in the West. The Sharks have played well recently (8 straight wins) and are pushing the Dallas Stars for the Division lead.

Nashville Predators 2 – Calgary Flames 1 OT
The Flames and the Wild remain tied after both lost in overtime tonight. Nashville was able to jump into the final playoff spot with this win. The Predators came back from a 1-0 deficit in the third period to earn the win.
