Colorado obviously had a good trade deadline, winning six straight games since they completed their transactions. Though the
Avs trailed for most of this game, they scored three times in the third period to pull out the win. Forsberg was able to get
his first points of the season, though he is still looking for his first goal. He assisted on the game tying and game
winning goals.

Washington Capital 1 – Boston Bruins 2
Even though Boston trailed most of this game, they pulled out a win thanks largely to Donald Brashear. The Washington
enforcer committed three penalties at 13:19 in the third period. The Bruins were able to score their first goal on the power
play that followed. Ovechkin was able to get an assist in this game. He is now four points in front of Evgeni Malkin for
the league lead, going into their head on head showdown Sunday afternoon.

Ottawa Senators 4 – Phoenix Coyotes 2
The Senators were probably happy to see that they were playing at Phoenix on Saturday. Ottawa has really been struggling lately, but the Coyotes do not play well at home. Fisher scored two goals and Gerber stopped 33 to post the win. This win helped the Sens keep pace with the Canadiens. They remain two points behind in the division.

The Devils needed this win to stay a point ahead of the Canadiens for first in the East. They are also three points ahead of the Penguins for the lead in the Atlantic Division. Zach Parise scored the game winner with less than a minute remaining in the third. The Leafs are now 8 points out of the final playoff spot.

All four of the Flyers goals came by way of the power play. They remain in 8th place and the final playoff spot in the East. The Islanders have been sliding, losing six of their last eight. They could have made up ground by winning this game. However, they are now seven points out of the final playoff spot.

The Hurricanes remain hot. They are 7-2-1 in their last ten games. This win, combined with an earlier Washington loss, puts the ‘Canes 7 points ahead of the Caps. The Sabres are now 4 points behind Philadelphia for the final playoff spot in the East.

This was the second straight overtime game for the Thrashers, however, they could not pull this one out. Florida is making a strong push for the playoffs and are now 6 points behind the Flyers. The Thrashers are at the opposite end of the spectrum, winning one game in their last ten.

Brad Boyes scored twice, but it was not enough for the Blues who are 2-7-1 in their last 10. The Canucks are now in a tie with the Predators for the final playoff spot in the West. Ohlund returned Friday for the Canucks. This is surprising with it being only three days since he found out that he had bone chips in his left knee.
