Carolina Hurricanes vs. Buffalo Sabres

The Hurricanes were on a roll prior to this game, and the Sabres were sliding. Buffalo had just lost a lop-sided game to the Penguins. They took out their frustrations on Carolina, beating them 7-1.

The Thrashers special teams really let them down in this game, giving up two short-handed goals and a power play goal. Brooks Laich had two goals for the Caps. Alexander Ovechkin also had a goal and an assist giving him six points more than Evgeni Malkin for the league lead.
