TSN.ca is reporting that Anaheim Ducks defenseman Chris Pronger will be forced to sit the team’s next eight games while he serves a suspension for stomping on Ryan Kesler’s leg.

With just nine games remaining in the regular season, the Ducks will be without be without arguably their best defenseman for all but one game leading to the playoffs.

“I’d like to apologize to Ryan Kesler, the Vancouver Canucks, my teammates and the National Hockey League for my actions last Wednesday night,” Pronger said in a statement Saturday, according to TSN.

Pronger added that his intention was not to injure Kesler. Apparently the league disagreed, though it took several days to make a decision.

The suspension marks the eighth and longest in Prongers career.

Pronger basically gets a nice rest before the playoffs so that he can help his team win the Cup again.

Great job, NHL. No evidence of a double standard at all.

ashley, you’re right, however, at least they responded, most of us felt they’d do nothing…

Ashley and Jonathan, Well it seems that the cries of Pronger haters have been heard and the garage league folded and punished a great player for no wrongdoing as I have previously pointed out. Perhaps Pronger, who plays half of the Duck’s ice time, does need a pre-playoff rest.
By the way, I have heard that the proper name for the Eastern Conference champion is “Duck food.” Thought I’d share.
By the way, we have a pocket Pronger on the Pens in Kris Letang who the Genius and staff have finally allowed to play on the penalty kill along with Gill. The other PK pairing ought to be Scuderi and Orpik.

I don’t disagree with you Jonathan. I thought that the NHL would just shrug their shoulders when the new video came out, but they didn’t. However, this suspension is less than a slap on the wrist. I don’t blame Chris Simon one bit for being angry at this whole thing.

Tom: I wouldn’t mind seeing the Ducks be “Shark food.”

Ashley, If the Ducks lost to the Sharks, assuming they play each other in the playoffs, the Redwings would have a chance. The Ducks own the Wings (and the Sens by the way). I’m sure the league will do anything to avoid a Ducks v. Devils final. Continued suspensions of Pronger may help. They can also suspend Uncle Daddy as well. The Pens would profit from either.

I’m impressed, I didn’t think the league would do anything…amazing…
