The Penguins had the chance to build their lead on the Devils for first place in the Atlantic Division, but were beaten by an injury-depleted team. With the Montreal victory, the Penguins now sit 3 points behind the Canadiens for first place in the East.

Montreal took advantage of the Penguins’ loss and the idle Devils to build on their lead for the East. They now lead the Penguins by three points and the Devils by five. Montreal was winning 7-1 after the second period and held off Ottawa’s comeback attempt, but not before giving up four goals.

Colorado ended their four game losing streak and Jose Theodore recorded his third shutout of the season. The win was desperately needed for the Avalanche who find themselves in the final playoff spot after having been first place in the division.

    I’m really, really pulling for the Oilers. I wanted the Flames to win last night so that Edmonton would only be 1 point out, but that didn’t happen. I have my fingers crossed that they can get it done.

    I agree. They are sort of like a cinderella team this year. They just go out and take care of business.
