Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild

It did not take long for the first overtime game in this year’s playoffs. Joe Sakic scored the overtime winner to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead in the series.

Gary Roberts has been a thorn in Ottawa’s side throughout his career. That continued tonight, as he had two goals in this game, including the game-winner. The Senators had many opportunities to get back into the game, including two 5-on-3 power plays, but Marc-Andre Fleury stopped everything that was thrown at him.

Henrik Lundqvist had a solid game, stopping 26 of the 27 shots he faced. Scott Gomez assisted on the first three Ranger goals, haunting his old team. Though, the Devils’ only goal came while Gomez was in the box for hooking. Ryan Callahan got the game winner while his team was short-handed in the third period.

Colorado Avalanche 3 – Minnesota Wild 2 OT
The Wild forced overtime with two third period goals. Jose Theodore stopped 28 of 30 shots, earning first star honors. Joe Sakic ended the game 11:11 into the extra period, scoring his eighth career playoff overtime goal. Ryan Smyth had a chance to win it with under three minutes in regulation, but his penalty shot was unsuccessful.

Calgary Flames 3 – San Jose Sharks 2
Calgary jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and held off the Sharks comeback bid. Ryane Clowe did his best to bring the Sharks back, scoring both San Jose goals, but it was not enough. Mikka Kiprusoff was solid for the Flames, stopping 37 shots.
