For the first time all series long, the San Jose Sharks are leading and they have the opportunity to knock the Calgary Flames out of the playoffs on Sunday night. The Flames, however, are confident that they can force a game 7 in San Jose.
“We realize we’re down in the series but we’re still a confident group,” Owen Nolan said. “We feel we can win this series. We just have to come out, be ready to work, play physical and the game will take care of itself.”
The Flames will need all of the confidence they can get, as well as a few lucky breaks and a couple of goals from players who have been silent in the playoffs. Captain Iginla has been the ultimate leader for the Flames and his 8 points means that he was involved in two-thirds of Calgary’s goals this post-season. Even so, he could use some help from Tanguay, Huselius, Conroy and Lombardi, all of whom have yet to score a goal.
The Sharks, meanwhile, seem to be getting a little better with each game. The Clowe/Marleau/Pavelski line continues to dominate, and Cheechoo has found his scoring touch, with 3 goals in the last 2 games. Nobody seems to be talking about Thornton, yet he has 6 points in this series (1+5), including the game winner in game 4.
