After going up 2-0 in the first half of yesterday’s game 6 match-up between the Flyers and Capitals, fans in Philadelphia had to feel good about their teams chances at making it to the second round.
Cue Alexander Ovechkin.
This year’s Art Ross Trophy winner finally awoke to take the game into his hands in the third period. That performance has forced game 7 tonight in Washington.
Both teams are dead tired. The series has been more physical than most expected and the Capitals are not going away quietly. Tonights game will be a test of attrition and endurance. The team that wants it more will win.
The Flyers need to establish themselves as the more physical force. In the absence of their grinding leader, Mike Knuble, it is time for youngster Mike Richards to step up and show the city of Philadelphia why he’s the future leader of the team.
For the Capitals, it’s more of the same. Don’t lay down and play dead – don’t give up under any circumstances.
Both of these teams have bounced back from unbelievable odds throughout this series. It’s time to do so again tonight.
