In what used to be one of the best rivalries of the late 90’s, Detroit and Colorado are having a very different meeting on the ice this time around. The games are more tactical, and the advantage is clearly with Detroit.
The Red Wings, under Mike Babcock, have stifled the Colorado Avalanche in all zones. Other than a brief comeback from a 4-1 deficit to a 4-3 deficit in game 1, the Avalanche have yet to generate any type of flow at either end. The talent mismatch has been exposed in this series.
As was the case with the previous series in Nashville, Detroit better not fall asleep. The Av’s can answer tonight with a win on home ice against the Red Wings. A win in game 3 is not only crucial on the series score, but the Avalanche are in dire need of some type of lifeforce. A win at home could create, pardon the pun, an avalanche of emotion heading into game 4.
