Evgeni Malkin may not have a great shot at winning the Hart Trophy, given to the regular season most valuable player as voted on by the media, but he has a chance to earn the Lester B. Pearson Award, which serves a similar role, but is voted on by players.

Malkin is joined by Jarome Iginla and Alexander Ovechkin, who also finished as finalsists for the Hart Trophy.

Statistics for each player are as follows:

  • Malkin – 47 goals and 59 assists in 82 games (second in scoring)
  • Ovechkin – 65 goals and 47 assists in 82 games (scoring champion)
  • Iginla – 50 goals and 48 assists in 82 games (third in scoring)

This is definitely a season to remember…not by just the Pens, but by many teams and fans around the league.
