The Philadelphia Flyers suffered a huge blow today when they learned that one of their top defensemen, Kimmo Timonen, could miss the balance of the playoffs with a severe blood clot.

According to TSN.ca, the injury, which is located in one of his ankles, was sustained during game four of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Timonen apparently blocked a shot and felt the affects immediately. After the injury worsened, he finally was declared ineligible to play.

‘‘We have to view this that he’s not a player for us in the series, and march on,’‘ Flyers’ general manager Paul Holmgren said just minutes ago.

Timonen, arguably the Flyers’ top defender, often is matched against the opponents’ top players and logs plenty of ice time both on the power play and penalty kill.

Without a doubt, this is the kind of injury that could have a huge impact on the outcome of the series.
