Summary

The Red Wings got a jump start on the series with a win at the Joe on Thursday. Brian Rafalski scored the opening goal less than five minutes into the opening period. Dallas was not able to get onto the board until the end of the second period. However, by that time it was 4-1.

The Red Wings opening goal came with two Stars in the penalty box. Mattias Norstrom was sent to the box for hooking, and Marc Fistric followed shortly after for roughing. Detroit would add two more powerplay goals; one from Johan Franzen, and another from Tomas Holmstrom. Johan Franzen’s goal was his 12th of this post-season.

Chris Osgood continued to play well in goal for the Wings. He turned away 20 of the 21 shots that he faced. Dallas was held to only four shots in the first period and six in the third. Brenden Morrow was the only Dallas player to solve Osgood, but it did not come until under two minutes were remaining in the second period.
