Faceoff Factor

Marty Turco finally put his ghosts at Joe Louis Arena behind him. It could not have come at a better time, either. The win kept the Stars alive and gave them momentum going home for Game Six. If they win the next game, the Stars can pull even in the series.

Dallas got the first goal 9:21 into the first period from Trevor Daley, his first of the playoffs. That was good news for the Stars since the team who has scored first has won every game in this series. Detroit would answer back a little over six minutes later when Jiri Hudler scored a powerplay goal.

Joel Lundqvist would score the game winning goal a little over six minutes into the second period. Marty Turco got a rare assist on the goal. The rest of the game was hard fought but there was no scoring and only three penalties.

Chris Osgood had another good game, stopping 19 of 21 shots, but the offense could not produce. The largest reason for that was Marty Turco, who made 38 saves on 39 shots. Turco had been haunted with the knowledge that he had never won at Joe Louis Arena in his professional career. He was sporting a record of 0-9-2 at the Joe prior to Game Five. He turned in one of his best performances of the post-season to earn his first victory in the Red Wings stomping grounds.
