Detroit ended their losing skid and finally put away the Dallas Stars. Detroit will await the arrival of Pittsburgh for Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday.
Detroit got an early lead on a Kris Draper goal 3:45 in. They would add two more goals in the first period. Pavel Datsyuk scored a powerplay goal with Trevor Daley in the box for hooking. Less than five minutes later, Dallas Drake added to the lead when he fired a wrist shot past Marty Turco.
Darren Mccarty took a penalty early in the second, giving the Stars a chance to get back in the game. Henrik Zetterberg would put a dagger in their hearts, however, with a shorthanded goal.
In the third period, Dallas had another early powerplay. This time, they took advantage of it. Stephane Robidas fired a slapshot past Chris Osgood to make the score 4-1. The Stars kept firing at Osgood, 16 shots in the final period, but they could not get another puck past him.
