Why did the Penguins sign Gary Roberts?
They signed him because he dramatically elevates his game for THE PLAYOFFS, for one thing.
OK .. so GW is now ready to go!
And so now that we’re actually at the Big Dance .. Therrien__healthy-scratches__Roberts for Game One. Wow. Brilliant move, MT .. !!!
Even on the 4th line, with very little ice-time, Roberts has proven that he can be a big positive difference-maker. He applied an intense forechecking hit and then scored a huge goal very early in Game One of the First Round against Ottawa, and he set up Talbot’s game-winner against the Flyers .. just two examples of what Roberts does in the playoffs.
Detroit is quite vulnerable to what Roberts brings to the table .. grit, emotion, and intense forechecking. He brings a lot more to the table, even at 90%, than a 100% Adam Freaking Hall brings. So what if Hall wins a faceoff or two? Big deal. Hall does nothing whatsoever on offense, even if he is adequate on defense.
If the Penguins lose at Detroit, MT will likely insert Roberts into the__next__game. But why wait for a loss?
That’s distorted thinking. Why not be proactive and do the utmost in trying to avoid a loss in the first place? N-o-o-o-o .. that would make too much sense. Therrien would rather be “contrarian” so that__IF__his team wins in spite of his distorted thinking, he will be viewed as a “smart coach”. That’s Therrien’s ego in action.
Again; what was the point in signing Roberts?

Michael, welcome back! You’re the only person I know complaining about a team in the finals. Congrats!
For whatever reason, I suppose I’ll answer your drivel.
The last time Roberts was out this playoffs, he was medically cleared to play and Therrien was going to insert him into the lineup. One thing stopped him: Gary Roberts, himself. Why? Because the Penguins had won their previous game with Roberts out of the lineup and the savvy veteran didn’t want to tamper with a winning lineup.
If you flip the coin over and look at Detroit, you’ll see a mirror image of what is happening with the Penguins. Chris Chelios — a cog on the Red Wings blueline — will be a healthy scratch tonight because he doesn’t want to be inserted into the lineup after his team won.
I know you won’t respond to this because it is packed full of facts and doesn’t give any possible way to point the finger at Therrien, but your rants are old. Give it up.
