Osgood shutting out the Penguins
Chris Osgood is only the fourth goaltender in NHL history to post two shutouts to start the Stanley Cup Finals. The last goalie to do it was Martin Brodeur in 2003 against Anaheim.
In his career, Osgood is 6-0 in the Finals with a GAA of 1.18. Add to that the fact that he hasn’t allowed a goal in 137 minutes and 33 seconds, and you can see why Red Wing fans were chanting “Ozzie” last night.
Franzen not upset
It didn’t take long for Johan Franzen to experience some good ol’ fashioned playoff hockey. In his first game back after suffering from concussion-like syndrome, Franzen became the target of a frustrated Penguins team. He was on the receiving end of a high hit by Gary Roberts in the third period, but he wasn’t about to complain.
“I don’t blame him-they’re trying to take their shots,” Franzen said, smiling. “I gotta expect that and protect myself. We’re just moving the puck, trying to stay away from the scrums.”
He said that shots to the head were a part of the game this time of year and that it won’t bother him, “That’s playoff hockey,” he said.
Let the celebrations begin
Fans in Detroit have declared that the Pens are dead, and the media is fueling that fire. It’s somewhat understandable, considering the way the first two games played out, but read what Drew Sharp wrote in the Detroit Free Press:
....
It’s Pittsburgh with the headaches now.
It’s over.
Schedule a date for the parade procession toward Hart Plaza next month because everything is simply falling right for the Wings.
....
Is it just me, or is Drew counting his chickens? I know that only 1 team in NHL history has lost a Cup after leading 2-0 in the Finals (Chicago Blackhawks in 1971), but that doesn’t mean that the seemingly impossible can’t happen in 2008.

Me neither, but I still don’t like to see people declaring this series to be over when the Wings still need to win 2 more games.

Oh, it’s not over. But the winner is looking pretty clear. Hopefully, playing at home is better for our guys!

Our Pens play like they have lost any confidence, and the Wings play like they can do no wrong (ask the refs, it’s true! Better yet, ask Malone or Scudari)
For us to have any chance of coming back, and making fools of the chicken counters, the Pens need to forget the two games they didn’t show up for and just decide to play some hockey!
