The ratings war in Detroit

It’s a TV war in Michigan, and it looks like the Red Wings beat the Pistons in ratings on Wednesday night. The hockey game was the most watched show in Detroit, with a 18.8 rating and 29 share, whereas the Pistons-Celtics game was 15.9/25.

I guess this means that Detroit thinks the same as me: hockey > basketball.

Wings player complains about Pens’ stickwork

Defenceman Andreas Lilja said that the Pens used their sticks a lot more in game 3 than in games 1 and 2. He thought that the Pens put their sticks all over the Red Wings.

“Yeah, you know, they’re definitely using their sticks a lot,” he said. “That’s something we have to live with. They got a few penalties …”

Holmstrom update

According to the ‘Ice Chips’ page on TSN.ca, winger Tomas Holmstrom will not practice with the team today, but will meet with trainers instead. Sources are saying that he does not have a groin or sports hernia problem, and the Red Wings are only confirming that it is a ‘lower body injury’.

Oddly, Lilja doesn’t seem to express any concern over the Wings’ own stickwork. I guess he just didn’t notice how it was open season on Malkin’s ankles in game 3. Then again, considering one of attempts to cash in on Malkin’s ankles involved sweeping his feet out from under him with a skate, I guess that doesn’t count as “stickwork.”

Of course, Malkin wasn’t the only recipient of some extracurricular activity from the Wings, but those are the ones that stood out the most in my memory. Of course, it also helped that I was sitting right next to the area where CBC was setup, so I could look over at their screens for replays from time to time.

I’m tired of the whiners calling us whiners. The Wings need to practice what they preach. Dayum!
