McCarty may get second chance

Tomas Holmstrom may not be able to play in game 4 due to a hamstring injury, and Darren McCarty may be inserted in the lineup for the second time in this series. If Holmstrom is unable to play, Cleary will likely play in his spot and McCarty will take Cleary’s place.

“This journey is like a fairy tale, like a movie,” McCarty said Friday. “It’s already been more than I could have ever hoped for — that I’ve gotten the opportunity to just be a part of the preparation. And then get the chance to contribute when other guys went down because of injury.

“I got to play in Game 1 (of the finals). Hopefully, Homer can play because it makes us a better team. But I’ll be ready if called upon and keep these incredible last eight months going.”

Holmstrom scoffs at diving accusations

Hal Gill and Brooks Orpik accused Tomas Holmstrom of diving after Gill delivered a hit to the Red Wing that sent the winger flying into the net. Holmstrom didn’t like that accusation.

“Yeah, I wouldn’t say that,” Holmstrom said. “You get cross-checked from behind, how can I see if the cross-check is coming? For sure, stuff happens around the net, you get banged up not just by one guy but two guys, three guys coming in, and it’s a freak show around the net. I don’t know. I don’t even know who’s out there — it’s just a big blur.”

Red Wings go to adventure camp

Since the Red Wings had to stay in the Pittsburgh area instead of returning to Detroit as planned, the team decided to have a little fun on Thursday. After morning practice, the Wings went to Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa for a little fun. Some players decided to go rope climbing in the trees and play paintball, while others went fishing or hung around by the pool and had a massage.

WPIX just showed the NBC clip of Holmstrom going to bench after crashing into the net.
You can see him, obviously in a lot of pain, with the Detroit trainer, I think, standing behind him. Then you see Holmstrom say something which appeared to me be “my back”, then he reaches around with his right arm toward his lower back.
With a hamstring injury, it’s almost automatic a player will grab the back of his leg before he even has a chance to think about “hiding” the injury.
