Series: Penguins (2) – Red Wings (3)

Summary

Less than a minute remained in the game, Marc-Andre Fleury was pulled in favor of an extra attacker, and the Stanley Cup was receiving final preparations for a Red Wing celebration.  That was the scene in Detroit after the Penguins blew a two-goal lead and allowed the Red Wings to take the lead in the third period.

Not the type of situation the Penguins were hoping to find themselves in in what had the makings to be the last game of an unbelievable season.

Not the type of situation that Max Talbot wanted to think about all summer.

So he changed the outcome of the game by poking in the tying goal with just 35 ticks left on the game clock, and his team was alive.

Two and a half periods later, midway through the third overtime segment, Jiri Hudler took a fatigue-driven high sticking penalty and was sent to the sin bin for four minutes.

“I was just praying for blood,” said Rob Scuderi, who was the victim of the errant stick.

That was just what the doctor ordered, as the Penguins’ power play, which was blanked four previous times last night, took control of the game, and it was Petr Sykora who put an end to the marathon just 36 seconds later.

We have a great thing going right now. We just wanted to win this game,” Sykora said. “We didn’t really look ahead. Now we’re going back home. We’ve got nothing to lose. We know what we have to do and hopefully we can bring it back here to Detroit.”

I’m thrilled these guys proved me wrong. I was sure they’d lose last night. What heart they showed! I stayed up to watch the entire game, no way was I missing out! Poor Malone, his nose is really messed up now. lol Gonch has to be sore as well. Hope they can make it to the ice tomorrow evening!

So, I am ‘aving de smoke while I type. I am also hook up to de IV right now and de glucose drip is dripping.

I promise you in my las’ post dat dis team would give you a performance dat no one would be ashame of. Dey deliver. For demself, de fan, an’ de city of Pittsburgh.

Marc-Andre gave one of de bes’ performance in Stanley cup Final history in goal las’ night an’ earlier dis morning. He is de reason we are still alive.

Hossa deliver. Crosby deliver. An’ Max Talbot. Max Talbot is de real deal, no? Dis is a guy dat pay de price to win. Den you ‘ave de Malkin who turn his game up. He show you las’ night dat he does care, he is trying, he has a passion for de game, an’ he find de Sykie open at de top of de faceoff circle for de game winner.

De boys came to play las’ night.

    De would not be deny.

We now ‘ave a chance to make Detroit sweat. To make dem feel more pain.

Dis we shall do. We will not go out wit de wimper. We will fight an’ fight to de en’.

Sleep is for de dead, but as de Pearl Jam say:

    I’m still alive,
    Michel
