Brian Burke must be smirking at the news that Lowe is no longer the General Manager of the Edmonton Oilers.

All the drama should cease now that Lowe is out of Edmonton. I guess new owner Daryl Katz decided to give his own team a little shake-up, though not as violently as the boys in Tampa.

But wait a second…

Kevin Lowe wasn’t fired. He simply moved up in the organization, becoming the President of Hockey Operations, with Steve Tambellini sliding is as the new GM.

I guess Daryl decided that he likes Kevin. And Brian will actually be able to call Edmonton’s GM instead of making an employee do it.

Tambellini moves to the Alberta capital after being a part of the Vancouver Canucks organization for 17 seasons, his most recent titles being Assistant GM and VP of Hockey Operations.

He was passed up twice for GM of the Canucks and will likely arrive in Edmonton ready to put his mark on the team, with Lowe in the mix.

“This is a management team,” Tambellini said. “We’re going to work together as a group. I don’t want Kevin Lowe going anywhere. He’s one of the reasons that I came here. He’ll be involved as much as he wants to be involved and I look forward to that.”

Lowe and Tambellini have worked together in the past as part of Team Canada’s management team, so hopefully this will be a peaceful partnership in Edmonton.
