Jagr Back To His Coach-Killing Ways

Jaromir Jagr is known as a bit of a headcase, leading revolts against several of his former coaches, eventually leading to their firings.

Now, just five games into his tenure with Avangard Omsk of the KHL, Jagr appears to be at it again. Reportedly, Jagr and head coach Sergei Gersonsky got into a heated argument that resulted in Gersonsky’s firing.

Enter Bob Hartley, who can’t seem to find an NHL head coaching job after his tenure in Atlanta.

Bruckheimer Wants An NHL Team In Las Vegas

Las Vegas has been talked about for years as an option for an NHL or NBA team, but with Harrah’s no longer associated with the construction of a new arena, the NBA may no longer be an option.

That’s because the new group expected to fund the arena includes Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who is a longtime fan of the NHL.

But, with few teams expected to be available for relocation, the only way to get a team in “Sin City” might be to begin…

NHL Expansion Discussion

The NHL’s Board of Governors will meet today to discuss numerous topics, including the possibility of expansion.

“This is standard at these meetings; it doesn’t mean the NHL is planning to expand any time soon,” Pierre LeBrun wrote. “But there will be the usual update from groups interested in Las Vegas and Winnipeg, among others.”

KHL Defection OK In Some Situations?

In the midst of several disputes, primarily focusing on Alex Radulov, between the NHL and KHL, some general managers seem to find it okay when certain players defect.

“As the Predators awaited resolution over Alexander Radulov’s bolt to join Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League, word came last week that Marcus Nilson, under contract with the Flames for 2008-09 at $1 million, is attempting to hook on with the vaunted Red Army squad.

“By the sound of things, the Flames won’t object, since the 30-year-old Nilson really doesn’t factor into their plans.”

So, when a player is “valuable,” defection during a contract is bad, but if the player is deemed unimportant, defection is just fine.

This situation just keeps getting messier.

A Bit Embarrassing

By now, most have heard of Slovakia’s 82-0 defeat of Bulgaria in a woman’s ice hockey Olympic qualifying game.

Here’s video proof of the first few minutes of that game:

You guys really do a bang up job. This site is not just Pens related stuff, it is hockey all across the board. Well done. Keep up the good work as always…

    Thanks KG, we appreciate it!

Forn this season, we’ve added an Eastern Conference beat writer (Mike Miller), a CHL/NCAA writer (Alex Kirshner), a second fantasy hockey writer (Kevin Dunn) and an ECHL writer (Kim Conner). Additionally, Ashley Gallant shifted her focus from general NHL to Western Conference specific, and Justin Maffei has shifted from general Penguins/NHL stories to statistical and business stories.

So, as you can see, hopes are to continue to grow FF so that we focus on the Penguins, but provide in-depth coverage of North American hockey and, maybe in the near future, European hockey, such as the KHL, as well.

Its like Slovakia isn’t even trying. It makes me laugh. It looks like a practice for them.

You just have to chuckle at a highlight like that one. How a team can give up 82 goals is just mind blowing.
