Schneider shocked by trade to Atlanta
In a recent interview with AtlantaThrashers.com, Mathieu Schneider was shocked by the trade to Atlanta.
Schneider: “I was pretty surprised mainly because Atlanta was a team that never came up during the whole process when Brian was trying to move me. It was going on for most of the summer. At the draft he thought he had a deal done but the longer it went on it seemed that it was pretty much narrowed down to three teams and Atlanta wasn’t one of them. So I was pretty surprised. My first thought obviously was that I was coming here and my brother lives here, so I was excited about that. I wasn’t really that familiar with the team aside from Ilya and Kozzy, but I’m really looking forward to working with the young guys here on defense. Toby and Zach, and Ron Hainsey is a great player who I’ve played against the last couple of years, so I like our defense for sure.”
Brind’Amour returns to practice
Carolina’s Captain, Rod Brind’Amour, returned to practice for the first time since his knee surgery. Brind’Amour tore his ACL last season vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins.
St. Louis and Meszaros named alternate captains
Brian Lawton, Executive VP of hockey operations of the Tampa Bay Lightning, named Martin St. Louis and Andres Meszaros the alternate captains for the 2008-09 season.
The Capitals experimented with Sergei Fedorov playing defense with Jeff Schultz during a recent practice. The Caps play the Flyers tonight and the plan is to play Fedorov with Schultz during the game. If the experiment is successful, the plan is to continue playing those two together.
“It’s just a lot of stuff that we’re experimenting with,” says Caps coach Bruce Boudreau, “because I don’t want to experiment at all come next Thursday and Friday. Our lineup will be what it is next Friday and everybody will know their positions.”
