According to NHL.com, Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. and AEG will team up to build an arena in Las Vegas.
The goal: to bring an NHL or NBA team to the Sin City.
“It’s our ambition to create a place that transcends a series of hotels,” said Gary Loveman, chief executive of Harrah’s. “The presence of a state-of-the-art events centre of this size provides a reason for people all around us on the Strip to come into our neighborhood.”
The arena, projected to cost roughly $500 million, has an anticipated opening-date of 2010.
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said this will significantly increase the chances of the NHL moving to Nevada, though nothing is definite, especially at these early stages.
“That is a matter our Board of Governors would have to consider at an appropriate time.”
